50 Shades of Grey is Everywhere right now....we can't escape the discussion...so let's hit it, and the issues it surfaces within all of us, head on.....
"I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him. But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ." 2 Corinthians 11:2-3
"But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people." Ephesians 5:3
"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:5
I discovered a book, Fifty Shades of Black and White, this week (it's a free download, check it out!). This is a biblical response to Fifty Shades of Grey. I'm still in the middle of this book, but this issue just seems to be permeating my every day life lately.
Also, Brant Hansen from Air 1 recently blogged about questions on sexuality. They are great video interviews with Sy Rogers answering questions from Air 1 listeners. These interviews could not be aired due to their content but are extremely honest!
So as we fight sexual temptation and are inundated with the "normalcy" of sexual immorality...what are your questions? Where would you like to see this conversation go? This blog WILL be revisited! Feel free to leave a comment or email either of us with suggestions.
Thank you for sharing about that free download. I will definitely be checking that out. This issue is very concerning to me especially the number of professing Christians who see no problem with reading this book or watching a movie like Magic Mike. I'm not saying that I'm perfect and I definitely sin in this area, but I am trying to make a conscious effort to watch what I put into my mind.
ReplyDeleteNone of us are perfect! I haven't read the books purely because I have enough trouble with this issue already, I don't need more things pushing my mind in that direction than I already do. Remember Ephesians 5:3 always....not even a HINT...very convicting for me. Let me know of any issues you'd like to see discussed specifically.
DeleteThank you for this thoughtful post. We need to saturate our minds with the truth of scripture in order to combat the lies of our culture. I also agree with the commenter, Megan. We need to be careful what we put into our minds. Good stuff that needs to be addressed. Thank you!

DeleteThat is cool there is a devotional to counteract the things in 50 Shades of Grey. I am so saddened every time I hear someone mention reading it... Here is a great article as well: http://www.purefreedom.org/blog/?p=320
ReplyDeleteI was somewhat surprised at some of the women I knew who went to see the Magic Mike flick. I think some saw it as a way to get back at their husbands who watch porn... I don't know. I saw previews thought how childish... The Shades of Gray book - which I haven't read - only read about - I was also amazed how many people I know either read it or want to. My prayer is "create in me a clean heart o God" - daily!
ReplyDelete2 Corinthians 10:5 is a great response! I'll be sure to note that for future reference.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit I don't know enough about it to have an informed opinion however, when I was recently pressed on the issue my response took the table off guard. I explained that I had heard it was somehow connected to pornography and that I couldn't spend my time trying to figure out if it was appropriate or not. I decided a long time ago if a book wasn't going to build me up then I wouldn't give it a chance to tear me down. I felt that was a safe enough response. With that the conversation (and the debate) ended:)
