Year in Review {2012}

Brooke over at Covered in Grace prompted everyone to reflect on their bloggy year and share favorite posts from 2012.  This got me to thinking...  Look how far we have come in 2012!!

We weren't even a blog in January!!  Yet, looking back, God had this blog in the works since July of 2007.  Honest.  There are posts dating that far back, unpublished but there.  Back then, this blog was titled "Path Back" and was an incredibly private and unpublished journal.

We published our first post on Upward Not Inward in February of 2012!  Our testimonies were published that month. Did you know if you clicked on our pictures in the sidebar, you will find both of our testimonies?  Here is one of my faves from February:

Well, Hallelujuah Anyway!

March was not a steadily published month for us, but looking back I remember studying Romans pretty hardcore.  Loooooove Romans!!  Here are a few Romans posts in March:

Adoption to Sonship {Romans 8:15}
Pregnant Hope Abounds {Romans 8:18-25}
Obedience {Romans 2:1-28}
Patient Continuance {Romans 2:7}

April, the month that sealed the deal that this blog was going to be a permanent thing.  We took part in the A-Z Challenge the entire month of April.  AND, this is when Laura hopped on board with her first post:

The A-Z Challenge was a blast.  Each letter of the alphabet was challenging, yet exciting all at the same time.  The post that meant the most to me was {R}omans:

I remember going to a bloggers event at the end of April and when asked what kind of blogger I was, I did not know how to respond.  I just remember saying, "I blog about Jesus."  Not a fashion blogger.  Not a food blogger.  Could you call me a lifestyle blogger?  Now, I know I could have said a "faith blogger."  Regardless, that event spurred this post defining the purpose of the blog in May:

And look, our first Fab Five post was in May!!

So many great June posts, this one though I needed to re-read. That's good stuff!

June also kicked off the Into the Word Link Up with Becky, Sarah, Kelly, and Kelly with this post:

Here's a great July post Laura wrote on worry and fear called What If.  Man, that's a good read!!  Another July fave would be this one called "Find Out."

In August, I posted my Bucket List!  {Yeah, I should probably update this soon!}

I also went to Women of Faith in August.  What a blast that was.  Here's my recap:

Laura posted this beautiful post in August that is really really worth the re-read:

In September, I participated in the Revive Your Marriage Series.  Here are those posts:

Prayer :: Attitude ::  Friendship ::  Praise

September was also my first #COFFEEANDJESUS.  For all you 50 Shades folks, Laura initiated discussion on this here.  Great post with great comments, too.

Do you remember our huge announcement in October?! :: THIS ::  Plus, Laura had this deep and heartfelt post on how to deal with resistance:

The last few weeks in October was a series on Esther:

November kicked off the first Saturday's Song Link Up:

Here is my favorite post from November:

December already?!  What?

We ventured throughout December with the series "Casting Call."  This series was all Laura's brilliant idea, and it was so much fun to do.  It was a series where we dove deeper into the characters surrounding the birth of Jesus, including the animals in the manger.

Casting Call {Joseph}
Casting Call {The Animals}

What a year!!! Can't wait to see what 2013 has in store!!!!

We ponder on the good of our week.
We encourage you to do the same.

We love reading how your week has been too!!

1) This week I am grateful for:

Falen:  We were able to spend Christmas with my mother in law, who I absolutely adore.

Laura:  The best neighbors who are willing to lend a hand at any time and plow my drive way!

2) This week I enjoyed:

Falen:  Watching my kids' faces on Christmas morning, going to church as an entire family, and all of my mother in law's cooking!

Laura:  Christmas Eve with my babies!  Christmas Day with my family (even though there was plenty of sickness to go around!)  Spending time with my kids while being snowed in and visiting with an old friend.

3) This week I learned:

Falen:  How delicious homemade shortbread cookies are!  Yumm!

Laura:  I am no longer a slave to sin.  I have the power to say NO.

4) This week I accomplished:

Falen:  Lots of wrapping for Christmas and painting my daughter's bedroom with my husband and mother in law.

Laura:  Turning away from temptation.

5) I am looking forward to:

Falen:  #CoffeeandJesus on Saturday morning!!

Laura:  New Years Eve with my kids and both my brothers.

Into the Word Wednesday {21}

Into the Word Wednesday is a link up and blog hop where fellow Christian bloggers share something they have learned this week while Into the Word. If you are a Christian blogger, feel free to connect and follow other bloggers who are sharing their recent steps of their walk with the blogosphere! If you are not a blogger and you are interested in reading more biblically based posts, scroll down and click until your heart desires.

The presents are unwrapped, bellies are full from the holiday bingefest, kids are in toy heaven, adults are...

exhausted?  stuffed?  tired of cleaning?
counting blessings?  soaking it all in?  enjoying every moment?
dreading going back to work?
worried about an ill family member?
aching about the empty chair at the table?
joyful and merry?  playing games?  watching movies?

What was Christmas night like where you were?

However your night ended or your day after is going... I encourage you to remember the virgin birth we celebrated yesterday was merely one of many miracles to come for the life of that sweet baby.  Jesus is not a fictional character or just some baby born centuries ago.  He isn't just a man that died a criminal's death thousands of years ago.  He's alive and well, reigning from an eternal kingdom.  He extends gifts to you every day, not just on Christmas.

To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy, to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forever more! Amen.
Jude 1:24-25

Many post-holiday hugs to you!  I'd love to hear about your Christmas night and/or day after.  What do you have going on?  I pray many smiles, lots of laughter, and abundant joy.  But if not, you aren't alone.  I'd love to pray for you specifically.  Email me or comment.  I'll respond.

Merry day after Christmas.

We would LOVE it if you linked up with a post about what God is showing you in the Word or in your life. Please also stop by and see what God has been teaching each co-hosts this week:

Kelly at The Houtz House Party

Jingle Jams ~ Joy to the World

This December I am diving into beloved Christmas Songs!
Today's Jingle Jam...Joy to the World...

Joy to the World , the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the World, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

HALLELUJAH!
CHRIST IS BORN!

Casting Call {Jesus}

It's December and Christmas is drawing near. Yay!
This month, we are going to dive deep into the
characters surrounding the birth of Jesus.
Join us!

Bust out the Word,
grab your pen and paper,
and soak up the story of a Savior's birth.

Next up:

Jesus.
The main attraction.
The big deal.
The prophecy fulfill-er.
The perfect baby.
The savior of the world.
Born...

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. ~ Isaiah 7:14

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. ~ Isaiah 9:6

And he still is called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and The Prince of Peace centuries later. The tiny son of God, who abandoned a throne to wear flesh for a broken world.  The greatest gift of all...

Eternal Life
Liberating Freedom
Miraculous Healing
Infinite Grace
Perfect Love
Holy Forgiveness
Transforming Redemption

These amazing, life changing gifts weren't wrapped in snowmen paper or Christmas tree paper.  They didn't come with a pretty red bow or a glittery name tag.  Yet, they were the most expensive and irreplaceable gifts.  No homemade gift on Pinterest can compare to the one given by the hand of God.

This is love:
not that we loved God,
but that he loved us and
sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice
for our sins. 1 John 4:10

Merry Christmas friends of Upward Not Inward.  We love you all and want you to know this Christmas the best present is that of salvation.  If this Christmas is rough for you or if you are hurting, we want to pray for you.  We pray for every person who reaches this page, but if there is something we can specifically pray for you in this season, we would love to do that for you.  All your comments come through our e-mail, and it would be an honor to pray for you.

Merriest of Christmas to You!!
