Falen stated yesterday, "Have you ever gotten into the Word and read something that you have read many times and still this time you saw something differently? It's times like this I think, 'This is why it is called the Living Word.' It really does come alive." AMEN!
Today I am asking, Have you ever gotten into the Word and read something that you have never read before and thought "holy cow, that's a story in the Bible?"
I am a law student, and I read A LOT (I can't stress that enough). Due to all the reading I do for school, I have the bad habit of skimming when I read the Bible cause my brain is tired of thinking so much. I know, I know.... But let me tell you, God speaks to me even in skimming. Skimming is better than nothing at all. God will use my skimming. That being said, I am sooo very thankful for Lifechurch.tv and their YouVersion app that offers reading plans. I can even set an alarm to remind me to read in case life happens and I get swallowed up in it. Tuesday's reading plan included Genesis 2 and Ezekiel 37.
If you grew up in a church, you know the stories of Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark, David and Goliath, Mary and Martha, the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal Son, Jonah and the Whale, Moses and the Red Sea... Did you know there was a captivating story in Ezekiel 37?! I had never heard this story! Here it is...Ezekiel 37:1-14:
The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”
I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”
4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. 8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.
11 Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. 14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’”
God breathed life into bones?! Seriously?! Am I the only person out there that thinks...HOLY COW?! Is it just me? Maybe my reaction is due to this: there's this song by Gungor called Dry Bones that I <3! It always has made me think how great it is that when I'm empty, dry, and dead that God raises me up, makes me new, and gives me life again. Seriously friends, he made Adam out of dust...he uses dust (practically nothing) to make beautiful things! (Just in case you didn't notice, I just referenced my other bible reading: Genesis 2:7...AND another song by Gungor called Beautiful Things).
I am truly amazed at God's timing and how he pulls every crevice of my life together in ways I can't even fathom! I'm telling you, this story only makes me want to read more and more of the Bible because how many stories are in there that I don't know about!?! I'm still truly FASCINATED!!
Did you know this story? Are you as amazed as I was by this story? Are there stories in the Bible that have amazed you that you had never read or heard before?
That's an awesome story from the Bible and I'm so glad you shared it. I too love reading the Bible and finding stories I long forgotten or didn't know existed. Followed you from blog hop. Have a great day!
