Repentance: to turn away.
Dictionary.com says "deep sorrow, compunction, or contrition for a past sin, wrongdoing, or the like."
Usually when I think of repentance, I think of the person who is coming to Christ. You know, that realization that you are separated from God and you don't want to be. You want the love of a magnificent, just, loving, and huge God. You invite Him in and your life begins to change as your new identity begins to flourish.
But, repentance isn't just for the nonbeliever. If we are sinful beings continually being refined, aren't we continually repenting? There is always something we could be repenting, right?
From drugs to disrespect.
From adultery to contempt.
From theft to gossip.
If I'm justifying my sin, I'm not repenting.
If I excuse my sin, I'm not repenting.
If I continue in my sin, I'm not repenting.
If I'm not repenting, I'm not fruitful.
Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.
Matthew 3:8
God, I know I am far from perfection. Show me any area of my life where I need to turn from myself and this world and toward you. My life is all yours, every bit, every nook, every cranny. Search me, God. Thank you for the fruit in my life. May it multiply for your kingdom. In Jesus Name!
We would LOVE it if you linked up with a post about what God is showing you in the Word or in your life. Please also stop by and see what God has been teaching each co-hosts this week:

I have been thinking on repentance a lot this week and Matt 3:8 is totally getting added to my journal this morning, to be meditated on as the day goes on :)

ReplyDelete:) This is such a good reminder! It's easy to pretend that we've repented from a sin, without the necessary change happening... what a great verse to meditate on!
ReplyDeleteLove the faith you girls share daily on your blog!!
